The fix is in revision 4415 of the subversion repository. This is not a first-hand report, but a person (who I remotely help) using Jaunty has the same issue, and has to deactivate compiz (by running metacity -replace) before he can launch the brltty xw driver. Cool! That was a long-standing bug with the popup shortcut. Having a way to trigger it made it a lot easier to fix.
