Public bug reported: If a gtk process blocks for I/O while a menu or volume slider is active, then all input is completely disabled until the application becomes responsive again. If that process happens to be blocking on I/O that will never arrive (e.g. a disconnected network filesystem), then it effectively disables the entire X session, forcing a control+alt+backspace, even though all other applications are still running fine.
