[Bug 201336] Re: report contains package information
This problem has also been raised in bug #202440. So, the following information has been added to the summary page: The following information will be sent to the Launchpad hardware database. Please provide the e-mail address you use to sign in to Launchpad to submit this information: Distribution details Device information Processor information Packages installed Test results This is not quite as extensive as having an expandable tree, the reason being that the list of hardware and installed packages can be quite long. So, at least mentionning what kind of information is being submitted should be made available for Hardy until a better solution can be implemented. ** Changed in: hwtest Assignee: (unassigned) = Marc Tardif (cr3) Status: New = Fix Committed ** Changed in: hwtest (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Marc Tardif (cr3) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- report contains package information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201336] Re: report contains package information
Fred, the reason why package information is being gathered by a tool called hwtest (hardware test) is that it is important to correlate hardware with specific package versions. It's one thing to know that some hardware works on Hardy, it's another to know with which kernel or xorg driver for example. This becomes especially useful to detect regressions when some hardware for Hardy worked with one version of a package and then stopped working for a newer version. This is something that will piss people off too and it would be nice if the hardware database could eventually help the distro team to resolve this kind of problem quickly. -- report contains package information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201336] Re: report contains package information
Just to be clear, I totally agree that submitting package information without the explicit knowledge of the enduser is not right. I hope that the fix mentionned above will be an acceptable solution until more extensive reporting can be provided in the user interface. -- report contains package information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201336] Re: report contains package information
It would also be useful to see the information before it gets sent, so there's absolutely no confusion. I think some kind of expandable tree (GtkTreeView for hwtest-gtk) full of all the information, followed by a Submit and a Cancel button would be appropriate. -- report contains package information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201336] Re: report contains package information
Wow! This pisses me off! It is called hwtest (hardware test), all questions are related to the computer hardware. So you would think it collect only hardware information, but it secretly collects what packages you have installed. That is spyware! It is an intrusion on users privacy!
