[Bug 202005] Re: Chess network game

2008-09-29 Thread FredWP
Well yeah, I guess you're right.

The official manual does mention that you should be able to play instantly on
the GGZ network without any modifications:
http://library.gnome.org/users/glchess/unstable/playing-glchess.html.en

See "Network Game ( Ctrl+L ) This starts a network multiplayer game
using GGZ Gaming Zone.".

So I guess this is a Ubuntu specific bug in that case.

[Bug 202005] Re: Chess network game

2008-09-29 Thread Jason Tackaberry
I disagree with FredWP that this isn't a bug. This is quite a serious
user interface bug. There is no indication whatsoever that the network
game feature does anything at all unless you happen to know what package
to install and what command to run. Even the manual had no instructions
on what to do.

[Bug 202005] Re: Chess network game

2008-09-29 Thread FredWP
This is not a bug people, it is just not configured by default.

To configure the GGZ network (the main GNOME games network) do this:
sudo aptitude install ggz-gtk-client

Then run the application and configure your profile and such properly (check
all settings, configure them and apply them):
ggz-gtk

Now when you do the same thing again, the "GGZ Community (fast)" option
will appear in the list when you pick a network game in glChess.

To prevent further confusion and make it user friendlier the Ubuntu
developers might want to preconfigure this, and for example by default
make users have a guest account named "UbuntuUser01" or something.

I hope this was helpful.

Another vote for getting this fixed. Why have an option that doesn't do
anything?
