A workaround in another bug-report suggested typing about:config in the location bar, promise to take care now! Scroll down to browser.urlbar.maxRichResults; and change the default 12 to 0. It's not exactly an elegant answer and may not be what you are looking for. I found some more info on this bug. It only appears on an upgrade from Ubuntu 7.x. I can confirm this bug is still present in the 8.04 final release. It's especially bad because "Clear Private Data" has no effect - all history still appears in the location bar.
