[Bug 203334] Re: KDE4 is somehow "slow" after upgrade to hardy

2008-04-06 Thread der_joachim
I had the same issue in KDE3.5.9 , Hardy beta, all updates installed. I
tested the first workaround (removing al scim related packages) and the
effects were immediate).

Another piece of information which may be relevant: when I did have the
problem, the only apps that did start flawlessly here, were KDE4
programs, like LyX and the KDE4 version of Konqueror.

ATM, I am trying out Martin's workaround. I'll get back to confirm
whether it worked for me as well.

Better workaround indeed.

Thanks a lot.

Confirming that too.

But an other workaround:
Installing the "scim" package, which installed the "im-switch" package.

This also removes the crash each time kdm4 gets loaded.

So it seams that it fixes some dependency.

I also want to add that I did not upgrade to Hardy. This was happening
on a fresh install of the daily build from 3/18/08. Also running AMD64.

I can also confirm that this works. However I removed scim-bridge-agent,
scim-bridge-client-qt, and scim-bridge-client-qt4

2008-03-18 Thread Martin Gräßlin
Yes it seems that removing scim-bridge-agent, scim-bridge-agent-qt and
scim-bridge-agent-qt4 solved the problem. Apps are starting fast again
and the error messages in the comment above are not shown again.

A friend of mine had the same problem and on his system removing those
packages solved the problem, too.

[Bug 203334] Re: KDE4 is somehow "slow" after upgrade to hardy

2008-03-18 Thread Martin Gräßlin
I just tested around a little bit:
If I start a KDE 4 application from a konsole I see the following error
messages:
Cannot establish the socket connection...
Failed to initialize scim
Failed to allocate the agent. Exitting...
Cannot establish the socket connection...
Failed to initialize scim
Failed to allocate the agent. Exitting...
Failed to invoking the agent: No such file or directory
Cannot launch the agent
The messenger is now down

I also noticed that a programm called scim-bridge appears in top as soon
as I start an application and that the application does not do anything
(the "slow" thing) as long as scim-bridge is running. I don't know what
scim-bridge does and I don't know if this is really related, but somehow
I guess so ;-)

I'll try to remove scim-bridge to see if this solves the problem.
