Public bug reported: wifi doesn't want to connect using networkmanager (hardy heron)
When i do it manually wpa does work and i can dhclient ath0 for an ip. NetworkManager seems to freeze (only dies when i send it a -9) Manual doesn't work all the time, i have to ctrl-c and restart wpa_supplicant -iath0 -c ./wpa_sup.conf a couple of times before it will give a CTRL-EVENT-CONN- a connection to the wifi router (speedtouch 780 w/ firmware release: 6.2.17.5) See below (after sysinfo) for the problems i run into when trying it manually system info: $ uname -a Linux kanundra 2.6.24-12-generic #1 SMP Wed Mar 12 23:01:54 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Debian package info (as on 22/Mar/2008, mail me if you need more): wpasupplicant 0.6.0+0.5.8-0ubuntu2 hal 0.5.11~rc2-1ubuntu1 hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-6ubuntu5 hal-info 20080317+git20080318-1ubuntu1 network-manager 0.6.6-0ubuntu2 network-manager-gnome 0.6.6-0ubuntu1 $ modinfo ath_pci filename: /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic/madwifi/ath_pci.ko license: Dual BSD/GPL version: 0.9.3.3 description: Support for Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards. author: Errno Consulting, Sam Leffler srcversion: 64AD740F085A20BCC0C8478 [SNIP] $ modinfo wlan_tkip filename: /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic/madwifi/wlan_tkip.ko license: Dual BSD/GPL description: 802.11 wireless support: TKIP cipher author: Errno Consulting, Sam Leffler srcversion: C113F2DEAC77DAAADDDBE67 depends: wlan vermagic: 2.6.24-12-generic SMP mod_unload 586 $ modinfo wlan_scan_sta filename: /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic/madwifi/wlan_scan_sta.ko license: Dual BSD/GPL description: 802.11 wireless support: default station scanner author: Errno Consulting, Sam Leffler srcversion: A0F7F888346F962D7873F09 depends: wlan vermagic: 2.6.24-12-generic SMP mod_unload 586 $ modinfo ath_rate_sample filename: /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic/madwifi/ath_rate_sample.ko license: Dual BSD/GPL version: 0.9.3.3 description: SampleRate bit-rate selection algorithm for Atheros devices author: John Bicket srcversion: 55DF1A44C731CB3E7385ADD depends: wlan,ath_hal vermagic: 2.6.24-12-generic SMP mod_unload 586 $ modinfo ath_hal filename: /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic/volatile/ath_hal.ko license: Proprietary version: 0.9.18.0 description: Atheros Hardware Access Layer (HAL) author: Errno Consulting, Sam Leffler srcversion: 6109C7067013DAF6BA8B0A2 depends: vermagic: 2.6.24-12-generic SMP mod_unload 586 lspci output: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:07.0 Performance counters: Intel Corporation Unknown device 27a3 (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 02) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev e2) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) IDE Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7 Family) SATA IDE Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 02) 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 22) 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc.
