The problem arises when you try the solution proposed on the thread, which is to recompile the alsa-source with module-assistant to the last version of alsa-modules. Then I had no sound and that's when the option snd-hda-intel was needed. This seems to be the only solution up till now, except if you want to move to Intrepid, which is still in alpha.
