Thanks! That's the detail I was hoping for.  (In the meantime I found
that "pandoc --from gfm --to html" did just as good a job and swapped
over to it, so I am no longer personally concerned about the package
itself.)

If you go to the package overview page, in the upper right corner you
have a link to the publishing history. According to
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grip/+publishinghistory it was
removed during the 23.04 cycle, and it looks to be the same issues which
got it removed from Debian testing. Presumably these two issues need to
be resolved and then a newer version would be autosynced from Debian to
Ubuntu at a future point.
