Similar problem here. Only when the window is moved, the video output is shown briefly on the screen. Otherwise, only output is a black window. I use the open source NVidia driver. Found out the problem was introduced by enabling "window compositing" in the XFce "Settings Manager" under "Window Manager Tweaks" in the "Compositor" tab. Now I find out, the flickering screen is just another bug (#219009). I have the same problem, but the -vo gl or -vo gl2 don't help me.
