[Bug 210212] Re: package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured
This appears to be a subsequent error caused by bug 288178, when update- manager does not handle the abortion correctly or something similar. Since the root cause has been fixed, this error (virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured) is invalid. I think Invalid fits better in this case than Fix released, except it would get handled as a update-manager bug. ** Changed in: virtualbox-ose (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210212] Re: package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured
Upgrading from Hardy Kubuntu (64-bit) to Intrepid beta. First I got this https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/286022 and then later this package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured. Requested files attached. apport.log not available. ** Attachment added: log files http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18936937/logs.tar.gz -- package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Daniel: update-manager does show debconf questions via the gnome frontend by default. if abort is the default, then most people will probably happily click that and that causes the failure reports we see here. -- package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210212] Re: package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured
I've started looking into reproducing it, but did not finish it. It did not happen to me, but there's a debconf question, which defaults to abort - asking if the upgrade should get done, since old snapshots cannot be converted. I've thought most users would just accidentally abort this - aren't debconf questions not being handled in some upgrade process (update-manager)? Would you need to Show details to see the question in the console window? ** Changed in: virtualbox-ose (Ubuntu) Assignee: Daniel Hahler (blueyed) = (unassigned) Status: In Progress = Triaged -- package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 210212] Re: package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured
The real error here is found in term.log: Preparing to replace virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 (using .../virtualbox-ose_1.5.6-dfsg-6ubuntu1_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/virtualbox-ose_1.5.6-dfsg- 6ubuntu1_i386.deb (--unpack): subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 Visual inspection of the preinst doesn't turn up any likely culprits to me. 'exit 1' precludes this being a debconf problem, leaving either the conffile handling or the udev handling as possibilities. Is this is reproducible with a clean install of and upgrade from gutsy, by any chance? -- package virtualbox-ose 1.5.0-dfsg2-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package virtualbox-ose is already installed and configured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This appears to happen for a lot of people, given the number of subscribers.
