[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

Browsing files works here, receiving doesn't work (and in Intrepid there
is no more ui in gnome-bluetooth-applet to deceide whether receiving
file is permitted or not).

as said before, file reception over bluetooth is *NO MORE* handled by
bluez-gnome, but by gnome-user-share.
Can all the subscribers check they installed gnome-user-share, and
activated bluetooth files reception?

I have installed this package but couldn't fiind any way to activate
bluetooth files reception. Could you please tell us where to look ?

BTW I find it very odd that users are now required to manually install a
package for such basic functionality.

I have installed gnome-bluetooth and after running gnome-obex-server
receiving files work.

What was the problem with the way hardy handled everything bluetooth
related in bluetooth applet ?

that's because it add webdav file sharing as well... (don't ask me what
relation exists between receiving files using bluetooth and sharing
files using webdav though)

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-10-17 Thread Tom Imhof
I would like to open this bug again, running regularily updated
intrepid.

I can confirm that I was able to copy files from the phone (LG KU990)
and to the phone with bluez utils 3.x, however, the recent update to
version 4.12 of bluez utils breaks the direction phone to PC.

*With bluez-utils 4.12 my LG KU990 displays the message Failed to send to ...
when sending a file to the PC (Asus eeepc 990 as well as HP NC 4010)
*Sending from the PC to the phone works fine
*Opening the phone via Browse device from the Bluetooth applet shows an empty
Nautilus window. *Coping files from the PC into this window fails - message:
Operation not supported by backend.

I do not want to rain on anybody's parade, but it do not understand the
reasoning behind replacing working versions with unstable software at
this point in time? I mean, it is not so much time to go until the
release of 8.10 LTS, no?

Anyway, should there be a solution, please let me know, also, if you need any
debugging information (hcidump etc.), gimmie a shout.
cheers
tom

I am on an unpatched but up to date Kubuntu 8.04 computer, and while it
exhibits the cannot receive file from mobile bug (because I have not
installed the patch on this computer), I can browse the mobile phone contents
from the computer just fine:
1) click the bluetooth icon in the Panel
2) Konqueror opens, and start adding locally discovered bluetooth devices to
the list. Phone is added to list.
3) Click on phone icon
4) System asks what to do with the link, and proposes to open it with Dolphin.
5) Click Open with 'Dolphin'
6) New Dolphin window is opened. Location starts with sdp://
7) Window shows OBEX File Transfer and OBEX Object Push.
8) Click on OBEX file transfer
9) WIndow shows C: and E: and I can browse normally from here on

Phone is Nokia N95.

I remember this used to work when I had Gutsy and when i first upgraded

+ Proposition for SRU update of the bug in bluez-utils:-
+
+ Description of the bug: Some Nokia phones cannot send images to the
+ computer over bluetooth.
+
+ This bug has been address in Intrepid by updating to the latest upstream
+ release which includes the fix. A minimal patch (debdiff) is available
+ in Whoopie's comment in this bug report. The fix has been tested by
+ various people both those affected by the bug and those who aren't, all
+ reports are positive that the fix works and doesn't impact the users who
+ aren't affected. The patch itself is also a very minor patch

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-10 Thread Kenny Millington
Ok so here's my first attempt at tracking down the upstream fix and
creating a debdiff (for Hardy).

Unfortunately I don't experience this issue with either my Nokia N80 (or
my girlfriends N73) so the best I can report is that I don't suffer a
regression from using the fixed package.

I've sent this fixed package out to my PPA for testing, if someone who
is affected could give it a test that'd be appreciated. I can try on my
dad's 6630i once I get home.

My PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kennynet/+archive

(To rollback from the package in my PPA you can do: sudo apt-get
install obex-data-server=0.3.1-0ubuntu1)

Please also make sure that obex-data-server actually gets restarted,
I've seen instances where unticking the option in bluetooth preferences
doesn't actually kill the process (this could be a separate bug but hey-

@Kenny, I think, your patch is not complete. But I also can't test
because my symbian (Nokia E90) also doesn't have the browsing issue.

Attached the patch from upstream which (I think) is complete.

Hi Kenny,

Thanks a lot for your package (obex-data-server_0.3.1.-0ubuntu2~test2).

I tried it with a Nokia N70. I restarted the bluetooth service and the
obex-data-server properly. But the bug is still here: when browsing the memory
of the phone, the window is still empty.
Thanks

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-09 Thread Jean-Philippe Lenain
Hello,

Running Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04), testing with a Nokia N70.
I had the same problem: can send files from PC to phone, cannot send files from
phone to PC.
I upgraded the package 'bluez-utils' to the Intrepid version, and now sending
files from the phone to my PC works great.
But still, browsing the content of my phone through Nautilus still shows an
empty window.
Any ideas ?

Thanks a lot

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-09 Thread Emmet Hikory
The file sending issue is in bluez-utils, and there is a candidate fix
available: if adopted, it will be proposed as a possible update for
Hardy. The browsing issue is in obex-data-server, and is actually a
completely separate bug (although as we've everyone here already, it's
not worth splitting the bug now). The fix for browsing is in the
intrepid archives, and if the nomination for Hardy is accepted, a patch
will be presented for a possible stable update.

(if someone wants to prepare a hardy debdiff for the browsing issue
based on the muiline-mantis ticket referenced in the upstream task for
general testing while waiting for approval, it may be appreciated. I
can't test (no Symbian devices), so I'm not likely to prepare the
browsing debdiff unless the task is approved.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-09 Thread Jean-Philippe Lenain
Emmet Hikory,

Thanks a lot for your fast reply !

So as far as the browsing issue is concerned, I just tried out using the
obex-data-server package from the Intrepid archives, but this does not
help, at least for a Symbian device (Nokia N70). The browsing window is
still empty, exactly as for the current Hardy package.

Has anybody else the same browsing problem with a Symbian phone, using
the obex-data-server package from Intrepid ?

Thanks a lot for the help

2008-08-07 Thread Emmet Hikory
I've refreshed the patch against intrepid, and also tested there. I
don't see any change in behaviour, which is best intepreted as a lack of
regression, as I didn't see the problem to start. Attached is the
debdiff for the intrepid update. If accepted, this bug can then be
considered for a stable update to 8.04.

2008-08-04 Thread cbkm
For testing purposes only I've uploaded the fix into my PPA if anyone
(who owns a Nokia phone) wants to give it a go:-

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kennynet/+archive

Please note once you've installed the new packages you need to make sure
obex-data-server gets restarted, personally I pkill'd it and then
unticked and reticked the Receive files from remote devices option in
the Bluetooth preferences. (Make sure you get the the popup indicating
Receiving files is enabled.)

Off-Topic:-

I'm afraid this was my first package build using the PPA system so I'm
afraid I managed to get one or two things a little wrong - so be
gentle... ;-)

(I edited the changelog for uploading onto my PPA since I needed to sign

for the code portion of the patch in sdpd/request.c that's identical.)

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-03 Thread Sami Mäkinen
I have just updated to latest versions of all packages in Kubuntu Hardy.
I don't know how to apply the patch mentioned in this bug.

I cannot send a file from my N95 to my desktop, which is my original
problem that brought me to this bug, via Onkar's link at another related
bug.

Vice versa works as before - I can push an image from desktop to N95.

Browsing also works fine, which can be used as a rather complicated
workaround to sending files. I can't say out of memory if browsing
worked or didn't work before, but now it works.

So yes, most definitely, this bug is still open, NOT fixed, at least
where currently available binary packages are concerned. Perhaps
somebody could package the patch as a convenient binary package that I
could try to install?

I have tested sending files to my computer from computers running Ubuntu
8.04, Mac OS X 10.4, and a Sharp 922SH running iTron, so if the bu is
Symbian-specific, my results would make sense.

Also, this bug is becoming confusing: those with issues with browsing:
please open a different bug. Those with issues sending files to the
computer from a remote device, please post your remote device OS details
to confirm if it is specific to Symbian (or maybe even only specific
versions of Symbian).

Emmet,

I'd say the bug is not fully resolved yet. 1 and 3 were the issues,
haven't had an issue with 2 myself.

For 1, it fails at step F (on my Nokia phone, I get Sending Failed
message).

For 3, it was failing at step I when I last checked, which was not a
long time ago. However, I just tried again and I am able to browse the
contents. Don't think there have been any bluetooth-related updates
since I last checked, so wonder how it is working now. But good to see
atleast some quick way to get the files to my computer from the phone is
working now.

So now, only 1 is an unresolved issue for me. Hope others can confirm on
that.

People have been reporting that they cannot browse their phones in

earlier Ubuntu release? I have a N70 and I'm not sure, if this

browsing work. Browsing would be cool, but is the lack of it regression?
If it is not, please get the regression fixed and file a feature request

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-01 Thread Emmet Hikory
I'm a little confused about this bug, as it seems to describe several
issues over some time. I believe that none of the issues are present in
Hardy, but would like confirmation from the reporters that I have
accurately understood the problem.

The following three issues seem described:
1) Problems receiving files sent to the computer
2) Problems sending files from the computer
3) Problems browsing files on a remote device via bluetooth.

Description of my actions to attempt to repliate the issues from a base
ubuntu-desktop install, with no adjustments to the default bluetooth
configuration:
A) Initiate bluetooth pairing from the remote device
B) When prompted enter the PIN on the computer
C) Attempt to send a file from the remote device
D) In response to a Connection Terminated message, right-click the bluetooth
applet, open Prefrences, and select Receive files from remote devices.
E) Attept to send file from the remote device again
F) Verify successful reception to desktop
G) RIght click a different file on the desktop, select Send to..., Bluetooth,
remote device name, unpacked
H) Verify receipt of sent file on remote device
I) RIght-click the bluetooth applet, open Browse Device, select the remote
device, and see the remote device contents in Nautilus.

In summary, it seems to work for me. If someone experiencing issues
could confirm that the procedure above does not work for them, and
specifically where it breaks, it may be that this is a soluable bug.
Otherwise, I'm tempted to mark it Fix Released, based on various
updates that have happened to the bluetooth stack, and it working for me
in 8.04 (+updates), despite the clear confirmation from many that it was
once a problem.

Oh excellent! this is exactly what we need. Can we get this patch added
to the deb and can we start testing the new deb?

The patch only changes two lines of code, all it does is change the

2008-06-25 Thread Daniel James
It may introduce other bugs if a later version of the software is
installed, however, the details of why this bug occurs are included
below - a direct quote from the maintainer. The diff for version 1.23 of
request.c should be easily applied to the version that we have in our
package - this package *should* be patched. I assume the changes would
amount to one keyword.

Service Search Request problem is fixed: see BlueZ cvs

I got it working with N70. I did as follows...

1) download latest Debian package from
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/obex-data-server
2) double click on the package to install it
3) open terminal from accessories under applications menu
4) execute command sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
5) disable and re-enable file receiving. This is done from BT preferences
(right click on BT icon)

It's really a shame that an OS mainly directed towards Desktops and

report this to Canonical if it's not solved, shame on you bluetooth

2008-06-24 Thread Daniel James
For the people who just commented on this bug - This bug has been fixed
upstream for over a month. The problem is we don't have an updated
package in the repos.

There are quite a few bugs at the moment that are fixed upstream but not
in the repos. I assume it is because the packagers are just too busy
with this being a lts release, but glaring bugs like this one need to be
fixed faster...

2008-05-23 Thread Ajo Paul
confirming the bug,

upgraded to hardy,
have bluez-utils and obex-data-server
sending of files from phone(nokia 6630) failed.

after replacing the bluez-utils from debian sid, the sending of files
from phone is resolved.

but still browsing from nautilus is showing no results, any fix for
that?

doing a obexftp --bluetooth 00:11:9F:D9:8C:A7 --list returns nothing,
but doing a obexftp --bluetooth 00:11:9F:D9:8C:A7 --channel 12 --list C:
and E: folders is returned.

any hints on the vfs end ?

Ok,

Applied the patch Jyrki Muukkonen say at

server/+bug/211252/comments/59 along the current version, and just
pushed up the package version up from 3.26-0ubuntu6 to
3.26-0ubuntu7.

Now, I can send from the phone to the computer.

However, this patch fix only the sending from phone to computer.

The browsing of phone from computer always fail even with this patch.

Now, waiting for the second patch to fix the browsing part :-)

I use a Nokia N70.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-05-01 Thread Matti Lindell
I can report the initial issue with Symbian 60 based phone (Nokia
N-Gage). File sending works from Nokia 6230i (Symbian 40) and N800
(maemo).

I reckon this is somewhere in the more lower level than obex-data-
server, as the obex-data-server process running in daemon mode doesn't
even get invoked. Maybe in L2CAP kernel module or bluez-utils.

The hcidump during file send from s60 phone to computer contains:
ACL data: handle 42 flags 0x02 dlen 12
L2CAP(s): Connect req: psm 1 scid 0x0041
ACL data: handle 42 flags 0x02 dlen 16
L2CAP(s): Connect rsp: dcid 0x0040 scid 0x0041 result 0 status 0
  Connection successful
ACL data: handle 42 flags 0x02 dlen 10
L2CAP(s): Command rej: reason 0
  Command not understood
...

2008-04-29 Thread Alessandro Grechi
You are probably right, Matti.
It seems a gnome-data-server bug, already assigned.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-04-29 Thread Peter Kerekfy
Confirmed here with Nokia 6120 classic (symbian).
I can send files from PC to phone and also can browse/copy files on phone. But
sending from phone to PC fails.

I am willing to help testing and debugging this issue since I own the
necessary cell phone device to reproduce the bug.

How can I help? What information is needed to track down and fix this
issue?

Confirmed here, with a Nokia N70.

I could browse/copy files with Nautilus in 7.10, since Hardy, Nautilus
opens an empty window ( obex// address is right)

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-04-28 Thread Tiago Cogumbreiro
I have a Nokia 6680. Browsing the mobile shows nothing. Sending through
the mobile to the laptop now fails. It was working in Ubuntu 7.10.
Downgrading to http://packages.debian.org/sid/i386/bluez-utils/download
fixed the problem.

With the version from Debian browsing also shows nothing. Since I never
tried this feature before I have no idea if this is what is supposed to
happen.

I confirm this bug too: I cannot send files from my Nokia N73 to my PC
anymore after upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04, while with 7.10 it worked fined.
