Public bug reported: Something changed in Gutsy that lead to the following things with my onboard audio (sis966 chip):
1. I cannot get 5.1 surround sound no matter what I try 2. There is a constant noise when I set the volume level to about mid-way. 3. When the hard drive does some more exhaustive reading/writing, I can hear that too through the speakers The 5.1 surround sound worked in Feisty. The colors of the speaker jacks and the colors on the mainboard matched up when using KDE, were mixed up when using GNOME (but I could connect them up so that 5.1 would work nicely). There was also no constant noise even when setting the volume level to maximum. Also definitely no noise caused by the hard drive. I also double checked this with booting live-Feisty currently. I downloaded the newest Hardy DVD (I have no CDs at home anymore), and the effect is pretty much the same as in Gutsy, all the above negative effects are existent. Didn't however spend too much time with it, thinking the bug is simply still in there for my chipset. I also just realized, when I use the volume controls on my keyboard, it is the microphone levels that are set, and not the PCM or wave, so can't use them either (worked in Feisty aswell). So there is another wrong mapping. I commented on other bugreports that seemed to be the same, but the move into other directions as my problems, so making a new one here. I would be very happy if someone could help me fix this, or at least get it fixed for Hardy, so that it will work by default as it does in Feisty. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- audio channels mixed up (SIS966 chip) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212402 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
