I get the same problem when dragging things from one nautilus window to another (Ubuntu 8.04 64 Bit, Lenovo T61 Laptop with NVidia, Compiz/Emerald). I thought the problem was solved for a while, but with a recent automatic update, the bug was back (I believe it was the update that brought kernel 2.6.24-17). Probably another -nvidia bug. Always include your /var/log/Xorg.0.log when reporting xorg bugs.
