Reinstalling with the kubuntu 7.10 alternate cd and using the restricted nvidia drivers fixed my problem. This is a secondary pc so a reinstall was not a problem. The only thing I did with this pc was install a different Nvidia card. Maybe that messed up something. I went from a 32mb Nvidia tnt video card to a 128mb Nvidia FX5200. My opengl screensavers are working properly now. I tried to reinstall kubuntu 7.10 live cd but got a busybox error. This pc used to have a Nvidia tnt video card but now it has a Nvidia fx5200.
