Now, if you want to do two builds of mplayer, one of which disables those Build-Depends, and one that doesn't, this means you need two copies of the mplayer source in the archive, which *really* doesn't appeal. I would like to re-open this task for mplayer, since ffmpeg is now in main. It could be a good idea to provide a version of mplayer in universe so we can ship it on a Live-CD. According to the mplayer maintainer we unfortunately have to keep mplayer in multiverse. Apparently Debian disables all encoding, so they can get away with it in main.
