For me the issue seems to have gone away during the Hardy upgrade and is now replaced by an issue where the Open dialog does not function properly. Same problem here. Running nedit on AMD64 Hardy, forwarded through ssh to i386 Gutsy xserver. I wanted to add that this issue is seen on any version of nedit run from any other machine.
