Confirmed here as well. I managed to install hardy PowerPC from the 20080420 alternate cd bug was bitten by this bug on the installed system. I could not boot - not even with video=ofonly. This is a showstopper! After further investigation I have found that the ticking noise is not from the cdrom drive but from the monitor. I seems like it is switching between modes all the time or going in and out of power-save mode.
