[Bug 217562] Re: Microphone don't work
vnieto, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested and remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text: needs-upstream-testing If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags: kernel-unable-to-test-upstream kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. [Bug 217562] Re: Microphone don't work
Mic starts to work after runing AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.17.sh [1] which downloads and compiles ALSA version 1.0.20. The recorded sound is a bit scrachy/noisy though. I have an Acer Aspire 5520G with an NVidia MCP67 HDAudio (ALC268 Analog). running latest updates in Jaunty 9.04 and the Internal mic still doesn't work. ALSA version is 1.0.18. In Volume Control > Preferences I checked all available boxes... Watching the level monitor in Sound Recorder shows a very slight increase in white noise when you turn up the Internal Mic, nothing from other mic switches. Me again. The internal mic does work for the generic Intel HD Audio. But as I said, it's a very limited driver with just two volume controls: "Master" and "Capture". Though I run Gentoo, not Ubuntu, I compiled and installed "alsa-driver" and "alsa-lib" from the official page (version 1.0.18) and the internal mic is still NOT working. The problem is exaclt the same. Now reverting back to Gentoo's drivers... I do remember that the internal mic actually worked with an older driver about 6 months ago (which one I don't know). However, that driver had some other serious problems. -- Microphone don't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217562 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I compiled alsa 1.0.16 (alsa-driver, alsa-firmware, alsa-lib and alsa- utils) downloaded from the official page. I hadn't have any special consideration to do it, only select the module to compile (hda-intel). I did this on February, so I don't remember clearly where I found the instructions to do that, but you should follow the typical steps to compile alsa (search the alsa documentation in the official website or ask Google). Right now I am using Gentoo Linux, and here I do not have any problem (I suppose that Gentoo-Kernel is patched to work. Also, it is version 2.6.25 and Ubuntu is 2.6.24).
