This should be fixed in Ubuntu 10.04 now. [Bug 218183] Re: Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions
According to the upstream bug report this will be fixed in GParted 0.5.1. Karmic has 0.4.5. ** Also affects: gparted via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337244 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 218183] Re: Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions
Maybe the powerful tool you used was "gpart"? It can reconstruct a correct partition table from scanning the actual contents of the drive. -- Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 218183] Re: Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions
When I made fdisk list my partition table, I couldn't detect any overlapping partition either. But when calculating the actual size of the partitions (by multiplying with the block size) you could see a partition overlapped another. I found a tool however, a powerful piece of software which automagically repaired my partitions. I'm sorry I give so few details, but it's has been over two months and I don't remember the site where I read about the size calculation, neither the tool I used to repaid my drives (it was a Unix tool, just download and go, didn't have to boot from it). I'll do another search tonight to look for it. Anyhow, the bug why I opened this entry for, is still present, and a new user could really mess up his hard drive without noticing...
I have a similar problem. I can still change partitions using windows vista and fdisk but gparted does not recognize my partitions. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo gparted == libparted : 1.7.1 == Can't have a partition outside the disk! [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo fdisk /dev/sda The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 14593. There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024, and could in certain setups cause problems with: 1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO) 2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK) Command (m for help): p Disk /dev/sda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x1a661e72 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1326426218048+ 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda23265652826218080c W95 FAT32 (LBA) /dev/sda365299792262180807 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda49793 1459438572065f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sda59793 10612 6586618+ 83 Linux /dev/sda6 10613 1191710482381c W95 FAT32 (LBA) /dev/sda7 11918 1387515727603+ 83 Linux /dev/sda8 13876 14006 1052226 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda9 14007 14593 4715046 83 Linux Correct me if Im wrong but I dont see any partition "outside" the disk. -- Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
