This happens to me also. I can go a step further to say that when I right click and use open destination the same launch application dialog appears. I am unable to reproduce this on 3.0.7. Sounds like you are missing a pdf reader. It opens fine in my firefox. I have experienced this problem before. Right now, on 3.0.7 I am unable to reproduce either, but it was a 'periodic' problem below this version as well. When i started the download, the 'Open' option was checked, and the application was (null) this (with the brackets, without the ). same problem , following downloads it asks for me to chose an app and I do not see anythign in the pull down list to chose. It then goes to the file manager but I do not know how to find the app software to select it. ( in WIN I would recognize the .exe file is there something like this in Ubuntu?). Since I dwld everythign to the Desktop the work around is then to got the DEsktop and then my app opens immediately after clkg on the download. I don't know if this is a bug but it is anoying..if fixable yes please!! Yes this is very much still a bug. In fact it goes much farther than just pdfs and ogg files. It won't open anything post download.
