[Bug 226422] Re: Laptop gets very hot

2008-09-07 Thread Jose
Tried Alpha5 Live CD. Problem solved, now fans very quiet. If no
application running "acpi -V" shows "Thermal 46.0 degrees C", that is a
normal temperature.

>> "please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
>> kernel"
Sorry, don't know how to try it, I have only Ubuntu Edgy and Debian
Testing/Unstable, and only small 2,21 GB free partition.

Best regards,
Jose

[Bug 226422] Re: Laptop gets very hot

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Since the problem hasnt been assigned, I assume not even being worked
right now. What level of kernel knowledge do you need to try and resolve
it

[Bug 226422] Re: Laptop gets very hot

2008-06-17 Thread John Patota
I have a zd7000 and also experienced these issues. Because of unrelated
hardware problems to be fixed soon I have stopped using it which is why
I am asking the question rather than just figuring out for myself.

ubuntu just sent the kernel 2.6.24.19 through apt. If the overheating is
a kernel issue, has anybody noticed a difference after the upgrade?

Also, do you the development team need any more streams of user
output/input or testing?

The laptop is an HP Pavilion ZD7050ea. I think 'ea' means that was
distributed in Europe but don't know the difference with other ZD7000 HP
laptops.

[Bug 226422] Re: Laptop gets very hot

2008-05-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
It's most likely a kernel issue, since the fan is/should be managed by
the kernel. Can you tell what's the type and manufacturer of the laptop
you're using? Thanks.

It looks like your fan isn't detected, since /proc/acpi/fan is empty.
I'm going to forward it upstream. Thank you for your time.

[Bug 226422] Re: Laptop gets very hot

2008-05-04 Thread Jose
The result of the following commands:
*cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
*tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi

I did 'sudo cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp' because without sudo I had no
permission.

cp: cannot open `/proc/acpi/event' for reading: Device or resource busy

I did 'sudo tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi' the result is attached.

2008-05-04 Thread Jose
Hi, I had to try this with Hardy liveCD because I installed Debian Lenny
over Hardy to see if it had the same problem. If you think it will be
helpful I can install Hardy again.

/proc/acpi/fan is empty

#'cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/trip_points' says:

passive: 67 C: tc1=2 tc2=3 tsp=40 devices=CPU0

[Bug 226422] Re: Laptop gets very hot

2008-05-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for reporting this bug. However, it's not complete yet. Could you
please tell us if /proc/acpi/fan is empty and post the results of 'cat
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/trip_points' here?
Can you also please attach in separate attachment the output of the following
commands?
uname -a
sudo dmidecode
sudo lspci -vvnn
/var/log/kern.log.0
The result of the following commands:
*cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
*tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi
Which should be an archive. The first command(uname) is small enough to be
placed in a post.
Thanks in advance.
