[Bug 226425] Re: no language pack in Seamonkey + dictionnaries install fail

2009-01-10 Thread stlubuntu

I have identified a workaround that has been successful
for me as follows:

Open a terminal and enter

sudo apt-get install aspell aspell-en myspell-en-us

enter your password and it is fixed.

Please note that this is merely a workaround. The bug still remains.
As a bug fix, at the next update I recommend making the above
packages required dependencies.

Someone who has a standard GNOME (or maybe even KDE) ubuntu
installation (with OpenOffice) may have already had these packages
installed, but mine is an u-lite (FKA ubuntulite / LXDE / Openbox) on top
of a basic CLI ubuntu hardy install and these packages were not installed
causing my seamonkey spellchecker not to function (and would further
not allow me to install a spellcheck dictionary.)

Thanks.

2008-11-12 Thread stlubuntu

Merci beaucoup, Joyce, mais . . .

I followed all of your instructions carefully
several times, but I still keep getting the
same error. Thanks so much just the same.
I am still using Hardy (I would not think that
would make any difference though.)

merci encore

[Bug 226425] Re: no language pack in Seamonkey + dictionnaries install fail

2008-11-12 Thread Joyce Markoll
Hi stlubuntu, hi Ubuntu team passing by... ;-)

I found out the trick, in order to be sure I went in virtualbox, and
first I removed Firefox (incase anything messes up in between the messy
browser folders... )

I installed Seamonkey-browser in Intrepid Ibex. After several tries I
did a search on the web (I've seen the other bug reports from stlubuntu
with no answers).

Here started one answer : stlubuntu you were close ! →
http://www.mozilla-enigmail.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=332&p=1316

quote: "In order to install Enigmail on Seamonkey, you have to run
Seamonkey as Administrator (on all platforms)."

So I did invoke with gksu :

gksu seamonkey

Then I did something you might have forgotten to do : went to the
preferences section and added "https://addons.mozilla.org/"; to the list
of sites authorised to install applications and extensions.

(Menu Edit > preferences > section advanced > installation of software
(whatever name in english : mine is french - then click on "Autorised
sites" button)

After it's easy to add the URL. Just after you can close the preferences
windows and add the extensions.

It just worked for me now, for the en-US dictionnary.

2008-11-10 Thread stlubuntu
Thanks, but all the pages to which you link are
ones that seamonkey has automatically taken
me to when I have tried this (again and again.)
Same error message, again.

I see what you mean by the "don't install as
root" comments, but I did not want to leave
any stone unturned. I have really tried everything
I could. This is a clearly a bug. Anyone know
how we can get this upstream to the mozilla /
seamonkey team?

[Bug 226425] Re: no language pack in Seamonkey + dictionnaries install fail

2008-11-10 Thread Joyce Markoll
PS: consider you should never try to install addons as root, unless a
package for an addon or an extension exists, thus you need to be root to
use Synaptic, apt-get aptitude or wajig. (Another tool above apt and
dpkg).

[Bug 226425] Re: no language pack in Seamonkey + dictionnaries install fail

2008-11-10 Thread Joyce Markoll
Hi, I think I found out sort of user problem there : please try to click
at "Install Dictionary - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-
US/seamonkey/addon/3497" on page : "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-
US/seamonkey/browse/type:3". This is the Seamonkey specific page (needs
to be selected in the upper right part of the site at "Other
applications" when you first go to "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-
US/firefox/"

Greetings,
Joyce
