[Bug 226857] Re: System freezes when watching movie on external display

2009-01-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

Dell XPS m1330, Nvidia 8400M GS, Kubuntu 8.04 with nvidia-169.12.
Whatching movies on laptop display works OK, but when I switch to external
display using nvidia-settings (right after login) and start watching movie
there, after several minutes system freezes: first screen freezes and sound
goes on, and after several seconds I have a complete lock-up - hard reboot is
the only way to get out.
  How to reproduce:
  1. Use nvidia-settings to switch to external display (I use HDMI)
  2. Watch any movie (with kaffeine in my case) in full sreen.
  3. After several minutes system will lock up

  This what kernel log scream:
  First goes this:
  May 5 13:31:26 homeless kernel: [ 1390.863262] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 16, Head
0001 Count

 Count 000365e7

And then the next block of messages repeats about each 10 seconds:

[Bug 226857] Re: System freezes when watching movie on external display

2008-12-17 Thread Ken Hughes
Since I upgraded to 8.10 I've been having this same problem. Sometimes
the log shows CPU#0 stuck and sometimes it doesn't. It's done this with
the stock nvidia-glx-177 drivers from Ubuntu, and drivers 180.08 and
180.11 installed from nvidia. I'm not using compiz, just the standard
Gnome window manager.

[Bug 226857] Re: System freezes when watching movie on external display

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

[Bug 226857] Re: System freezes when watching movie on external display

2008-08-26 Thread Leann Ogasawara
There hasn't been any recent activity in this bug report and we were
wondering if this is still an issue? The Ubuntu kernel team is actively
working on the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. If you could please
test the latest Alpha release for Intrepid it would be much appreciated
- http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. If
the issue still exists, please also provide the appropriate debugging
information as outlined at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies
. Thanks in advance.
