This still seems to be a problem on OOo 3, I got caught off guard when I created a note and it said by unknown, and then realized that it had not taken any of my data from gnome-about-me, so had to fill in all my information again. Having OOo fill this information in automatically would be really nice, another desktop integration feature I've not typically seen on other OSs. This probably refers to the Tools→Options dialog, OpenOffice.org→User Data panel. It's not really using the Gnome About Me information to get that though it is pulling that from the /etc/passwd file the same as About Me does. Oh yea, it also appears that it caches the name after the .openoffice.org2 directory is created which is bad.
