[Bug 229304] Re: upgrade from dapper to hardy fails

2008-05-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Thanks for the follow-up, ChosenOne. I'm marking this bug as invalid
for cupsys (and dropping the milestone) since this doesn't appear to be
a package bug. You may want to try to recover your filesystem by
mounting it read-only and using the 'fsck' command to resolve any
corruption.

** Changed in: cupsys (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Invalid
   Target: ubuntu-8.04.1 = None

[Bug 229304] Re: upgrade from dapper to hardy fails

2008-05-19 Thread Michael Vogt
Here is the error that caused the upgrade to abort. I reassign:

Unpacking libcupsys2 (from .../libcupsys2_1.3.7-1ubuntu3_i386.deb) ...

dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/libcupsys2_1.3.7-1ubuntu3_i386.deb (--unpack):

unable to install new version of `./usr/lib/libcups.so.2': No such file
or directory

dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

What is the output of:
$ ls -l /usr/lib/libcups*

Re: [Bug 229304] Re: upgrade from dapper to hardy fails

2008-05-19 Thread ChosenOne
Hello,
I'll directly start:

~# ls -l /usr/lib/libcups*
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/libcups.so.2: No such file or directory

Note the cannot access. Also. see this result:

:~# ls -al /usr/lib/
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/libcups.so.2: No such file or directory
?? ? ?? ?? libcups.so.2

Maybe there's a file-system error and cupsys might not be a problem
after all? I'm not very skillful in this topic and only making guesses.
However I'll try to help as much as I can (although I won't be available
until Friday).
Note also, that this problem happened on a rented virtual server so I
can't fsck or similar (in case it might become useful for debugging)

Greetings,
Frederik Braun
