[Bug 229547] Re: Atheros wifi stops working randomly
The bug is closed already, but here is an update on this 'bug'. I recently installed Windows XP on this notebook and.. guess what, the same problem is there after an unexpected shutdown. Rebooting about 5-6 times reenables the network. My best guess now is that this is a hardware problem and has never been a bug in Ubuntu. -- Atheros wifi stops working randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I haven't been able to reproduce this bug for a long time. I guess that means it is fixed. [Bug 229547] Re: Atheros wifi stops working randomly
Hi wouterdenhaan, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 229547 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kj-triage ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Atheros wifi stops working randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 229547] Re: Atheros wifi stops working randomly
I just upgraded to the latest Intrepid. This issue remains. I think I will be trying to install Windows XP again on this computer, just to check whether this problem is OS-specific or rather a hardware-issue. I'm not sure what other steps to take. -- Atheros wifi stops working randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 229547] Re: Atheros wifi stops working randomly
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- Atheros wifi stops working randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 229547] Re: Atheros wifi stops working randomly
This behaviour is sometimes triggered by the laptop running out of battery-power entirely. This is not the only situation in which this happens, but a few times at least it was triggered by that. -- Atheros wifi stops working randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Having same problem, same log entries exactly, on an ACER Aspire 5050 - except I don't seem to be working every few reboots. [Bug 229547] Re: Atheros wifi stops working randomly
** Description changed: The Atheros wifi in my Acer 5051 notebook most of the time works like a charm. Once in a while however, wireless networking isn't available from nm-applet anymore. Rebooting once doesn't usually fix the problem. But for some reason, most of the times it works after 4-5 reboots. I had this same problem regularly over 6 months ago. Last six months everything worked fine.. I guess that since my upgrade to Hardy the problem started reappearing. I noticed the following error in dmesg: [ 52.964098] wifi%d: unable to attach hardware: 'Hardware revision not supported' (HAL status 13) lspci -vv: 08:04.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc.
