Actually, this is a bug for me. I have totem installed, root's nautilus shows thumbnails and mine not. To be even more funny, root's nautilus shows thumbnails even for files bigger than 5 MB, even though in its preferences there is set an option to show them only to files smaller than that... Ok, guys. The problem was that I had installed the codecs after DLing videos. I'm not familiar with the usage of gnome-video-thumbnailer. All gconf thumbnail options are enabled. Are you able to watch and/or thumbnail the videos with (e.g.) totem- video-thumbnailer manually?
