I'm experiencing the exact same problem, with the font size not only shrinking randomly, but also getting bigger. This seems to be the same as [https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/201056 this] bug, though. It may also be related to [https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/liferea/+bug/203157 this] issue. Now you mention it I am also seeing the font size get bigger on some websites including launchpad (I had not noticed this before as I had put the changes down to a strange choice of font sizes on the part of the site designer.) It seems that I get the bigger font sizes on a very few web pages whenever I have normal fonts in liferea and these pages display properly when I have incorrect small font sizes in liferea. It seems there is a partial fix in bug 178558. Changing layout.css.dpi to 96 in about:config seems to fix the large font sizes on some pages in firefox. I've no idea if it solves the small text in liferea though, I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
