[Bug 231727] Re: installer clean existing /boot partition
This bug was fixed in the package partman-target - 55ubuntu2 --- partman-target (55ubuntu2) intrepid; urgency=low [ Evan Dandrea ] * Don't clear boot. It makes sharing a boot partition impossible and other distributions use sufficiently different kernel names anyway. [Bug 231727] Re: installer clean existing /boot partition
So can I assume that ubuntu-8.04.1-alternate-amd64.iso is not affected or that at least there will be a unaffected release 8.04-2 alternate at some point in the (near) future. -- installer clean existing /boot partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 231727] Re: installer clean existing /boot partition
You're right, its 8.04. As every distribution uses it's own tags for kernels, is quite difficult to get conflicts with kernel/initrd, and with grub the last one prevails. If the erasing is intentional, I think it should not delete lost+found, and it should be warned somewhere. Not only you will loose any chance to boot other distros, but in my case I did lose some data, as I use the boot partition to share home directory of the user I want to share among distros. I'm quite sure that I did install previous ubuntu versions on systems with other linux distributions installed, and it didn't erase anything, and made a very good job detecting them and even adding them to grub menu. -- installer clean existing /boot partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 231727] Re: installer clean existing /boot partition
Ubuntu 8.10 doesn't exist yet. You must mean Ubuntu 8.04? Anyway, this is currently somewhat intentional (files from a Fedora installation in /boot could easily interfere with a new Ubuntu installation), although I agree that the results are suboptimal. Evan, maybe we can be a bit finer-grained about /boot? ** Changed in: partman-target (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: base-installer = partman-target Importance: Undecided = High Status: New = Triaged -- installer clean existing /boot partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 231727] Re: installer clean existing /boot partition
This might be related to bug 38168, but I'm quite sure that I didn't have this problems in the past reusing an existing /home partition. -- installer clean existing /boot partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
