Whenever compiz would crash in gusty, I could go to
System-Preferences-Appearance-Visual effects tab and choose Custom
to restore its custom settings configured via CompizConfig. Now, that
radio button doesn't exist, or at least, when it crashes (which AFAIK is
basically some very strange process deciding to change aforementioned
radio button to none) the button vanishes. THIS IS NOT GOOD!!! It
- means I have to manually set all of my configuration. It seems that the
- radio buttons which used to choose between several presets and a custom
- now break into and mess up CompizConfig. Combined with Bug #225014,
- this is going to make OpenOffice.org almost impossible to use for me.

[Bug 231773] Re: when compiz crashes, it destroys my configuration from compizconfig

2008-05-18 Thread Thinboy00
Update: It seems CCSM (CompizConfig) doesn't work *at all*
To reproduce:
1. Install CCSM
2. play with the settings. Turn something noticeable, such as the desktop
cube, on
3. If you can see the effect of step 2 (else goto step 4), go to
System-Preferences-Appearance-Visual effects tab, and click a radio button.
4. Your settings in CCSM are ignored in favor of the (extremely simplistic)
settings shown in the screenshot.

Ignore previous comment, it was caused by program/user stupidity
combining in a surprising way.

2008-05-18 Thread Thinboy00
This bug basically broils down to the loss of the custom radio button,
and the new, invasive approach to settings management that the
appearence dialog/control center takes (it breaks into and modifies
custom settings)

This is what the dialog box looks like when custom settings have been
applied.

+ There is no longer a custom radio button in the dialog box at
System-Preferences-Appearance-Visual Effects tab. Furthermore, selecting a
preset configuration will overwrite your custom configuration.
+ To reproduce:
+ 0. Have Hardy, CompizConfig installed
+ 1. Set some custom options via CC. I recommend turning on plugins relating
to the cube because they are not favored by the presets
+ 2. Open the dialog via the aforementioned path
+ 3. choose a preset (like none or normal)
+ 4. Look at your settings in CompizConfig. Your custom settings will have
been overwritten.
+ In gusty, the custom settings would have been unchanged but ignored until you
played with them again. Now they're overwritten.
