David, your lpoptions file marks the Epson as default. Probably some problem between CUPS user default printer and system-wide default printer. The system wide file /etc/cups/lpoptions does not exist on my system? I notice that the file /etc/cups/printers.conf (attached) defines the default printer correctly. The file ~/.cups/lpoptions (also attached) defines the incorrect printer to be default. Removing this last file corrects the problem - thanks. I did use system-config-printer to set up my default although the Epson was added automagically when switched on.
