Binary package hint: screenlets
upon boot and then entering gnome the splash screen comes up showing
progress in little icons of stuff loading into memory it gets this far
and stops. you see the odd flash of hardrive light but keyboard doesn't
respond (alt+ctrl+bckspc, alt+ctrl+Fn* .etc) can't get to a terminal so
... hard reboot.
