[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.

2015-03-23 Thread Bungaman
Same issue for me, also on photosmart 7450. I managed to get one test
page out of the printer and that's it. What is happening is that the
printer disappears from the usb channel. Why it does that I do not know
but the computer really cannot communicate to the printer anymore when
it is gone. I tried to plug it in on different usb ports but that does
not resolve anything.

One other strange thing is that it always says "Pen cleaning in
progress" just after switching it on and that status message does not go
away. Note that I did install new cartridges with all these issues and
was able to get 1 test page out which printed nicely. Another thing is
the cartridge for color always indicates as not installed althoug it is
and with the test page, it used the colors.

I kicked out Windows but a bit too soon I believe... Desparate for a
fix...

[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.

2014-12-13 Thread Till Kamppeter
This seems to be a wake-up problem on some (probably older) printer
models.

Usually, a printer should wake up from power-saving mode simply by
sending a job (or even any kind of status or ink level request) to the
printer, a special wake-up command should not be needed. But one never
knows whether there are printers needing a wake-up command or printers
with a hardware/firmware bug.

Can someone of the HPLIP developers at HP have a look into this and
perhaps let HPLIP somehow precede print jobs with some wake-up command,
at least for printer groups where this is needed or even to all printers
where it is safe?

[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.

2014-12-13 Thread dino99
An other feedback with a c4585 here running on vivid and/or utopic/precise i386:
- same issue as described
- i get around by unplug/plug the usb cord

so im thinking about how the 'usb' device is monitored:
- at the login session (gnome-shell here) the hp printer is well identified
(icon in the systray for a few seconds then disappear)
- when a print job is sent later, the printer does not awake: need to
unplug/plug the usb cord, then i need to reload the printing job, choose the
printer, then the job is done. But then the printer is again deactivated and
the next print job needs the previous workaround.

That is; so as i understand, sending a print job SHOULD also first
reinitiate the device to make it active. Is it a
udev/systemd/script/else missing/not implemented mandatory job ? (seems
not be a hplip issue per se)

[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.

2009-11-18 Thread Stefan Koch
After an really media-jam, I get every time the media-jam error. The
printer prints, but the error comes... I don't know whether the message
come before the really jam, but I have really noticed the error bubble
since the jam.

The error comes if I print from my notebook (ubuntu 9.10) to the
"server" (ubuntu 9.10), on the notebooks display, too. By printing from
the server the message comes, too.

The protocol between client and server is IPP.

Best regards

Stefan Koch

[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.

2009-11-17 Thread chrissaxon
I can confirm the problem with Ubuntu 9.10 and my Photosmart 7450. Under
Windows, the printer works fine.Under Ubuntu the printer seems to be
detected and installed correcttly, however I cannot print anything. The
task is shown in the printer queue, but its status is shown as
"angehalten" (German for stopped) and changing the status manually does
not produce any result. The problem solver reports "communication
problems". The printer seems "locked up" so badly, it sometimes even
stops the computer during the boot sequence, so I have to unplug its
power supply.

I have downloaded and installed the latest hplips-package, but that
didn't change anything.

2008-08-29 Thread Forest
Marking confirmed, because I have done extensive troubleshooting, and
definately there is a problem with this and have tried every combination
of app-armor disabling, running as root, and everything. And this but is
reproduced by a significant portion of users using hplip on usb inkjet
printers on a variety of systems. All regressions since 8.04 beta and
8.04 finals.

[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.

2008-08-20 Thread Forest
Ok I have more details now. When I try to print from a remote machine
via cups http server then it locks up and gives the media jam/other
errors. Then I must unplug and replug the printer's power to work again.
printing locally from firefox or gedit or print test page works fine.
But once locked up, no printing (even locally) works.

I tried a suggestion in bug# Here is debug info of sending a print job
to the printer from a remote system via http:

[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.

2008-08-17 Thread Forest
Exact same problem for me, only its a usb photosmart 7260 printer. It
detected fine when I first plugged it in, test page fine, then later on
I tried to print from firefox, and it didn't print. So I went to do a
test page again and it didn't work. I tried to push the power button on
the printer and it wouldn't power off, only unplugging the power would
allot it to power off. So I unplugged it, and replugged it, still didn't
work.

Only until I unplugged the USB cord, unplugged the power, then replugged
power, then replugged the USB port did the printer start working again.
This time it redetected as a second printer named
"photosmart_7200_series~" (with the ~ at the end). Now this printer
works for me, but I have to pull power and USB every now and then when
the printer quits working for me, then replug it all again. It typically
will print about 2-3 pages until it locks up. Many times I get a "media
jam" error, or "other" error in the printer queue icon in ubuntu.
Sometimes no error at all.

I can use this same printer plugged into an Xp and Vista machine with no
errors whatsoever.

Please let me know what I need to post to help troubleshoot this
problem.

Now that this is in hplip, it's looking like it could be related to bugs
181242 and 204540.
