Sorry, I haven't seen any relevant updates today... Which Ubuntu version and repositories are you using? I think the following lines from the Xorg log are the interesting ones: drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device or address) drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device or address) drmOpenDevice: Open failed [drm] failed to load kernel module "fglrx" (WW) fglrx(0): Failed to open DRM connection Can't spot anything in the dmesg output. The compiz FAQ mentions that the white screen problem is a common result of the graphics driver not loading. FYI, I'm using the stock fglrx driver from the ubuntu repositories. I can confirm this bug. After the last kernel update, compiz goes from the login screen directly to a completely white screen. Effects are still working (e.g. if I press Alt+F4, I can see the closing-window- animation), but no window contents are visible. This only happens when booting into the newly installed kernel 2.6.24-19. When booting 2.6.24-18, everything works fine. When I disable compiz in 2.6.24-18 and reboot into 2.6.24-19, everything also works, but without desktop effects of course. BTW, I also have an ATI video card (like the original poster), an X300. Running Xfce and fusion-icon.
