[Bug 250211] Re: Intrepid: WLAN LED blinks incessantly on iwl3945 laptop

2008-09-09 Thread Michael Doube
I see the blinking on Intrepid. It seems to have a funny pattern, like

if traffic
  for (n=0; n<5; n++)
   led on for 250 ms;
   led off for 250 ms;

As opposed to just blinking in direct correlation to traffic, like the
led on the back of an ethernet adapater.

if packet
blink for 10 ms

try
]$ ping google.com

and you will see what I mean.

So I agree, the blinking serves little informative purpose (it does not
relate very well to actual traffic) and that makes it annoying. For me,
either a solid led or blinking on actual traffic would be preferable.

Hi Mario. Are the firmware files distributed in the linux-ubuntu-
modules* package, right? I searched on packages.ubuntu.com but couldn't
found it for version 2.6.27-1-generic.

[Bug 250211] Re: Intrepid: WLAN LED blinks incessantly on iwl3945 laptop

2008-08-29 Thread Mario Vukelic
Marcos, I did not have this problem, my wireless worked automatically
with 2.6.27. Maybe you are missing some metapackage?

Anyway, I'd like to make another correction, in case that's somehow
important: the light does not blink "all the time", as I wrote. Instead,
it alternates between blinking and steady states. Often it's steady for
a minute, possibly more. At other times it's blinking a lot. I can see
no obvious rhythm or correlation with anything, though.

[Bug 250211] Re: Intrepid: WLAN LED blinks incessantly on iwl3945 laptop

2008-08-29 Thread Marcos Hack
Well, I think I figured out what was missing:
/lib/firmware/2.6.27-1-generic/iwlwifi-3945* files

But there is no linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.27-1-generic package available
yet and I just copy the files manually.

Now the wireless is working and blinking all time when there is an
active wireless connection as reported by Mario.

[Bug 250211] Re: Intrepid: WLAN LED blinks incessantly on iwl3945 laptop

2008-08-29 Thread Marcos Hack
I installed the following packages in Ubuntu 8.04.1 running on a HP
Pavilion dv6000 (dv6626us) and the wireless network connection stopped
to work completely:

linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic_2.6.27.1.1_i386.deb
linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic_2.6.27-1.2_i386.deb
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.27-1-generic_2.6.27-1.1_i386.deb

Do I need to install any other package to test kernel 2.6.27?

[Bug 250211] Re: Intrepid: WLAN LED blinks incessantly on iwl3945 laptop

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
