[Bug 252449] Re: No automatic syntax highlighting
I'm on Intrepid, gedit v2.24.2. When I open php files, I don't see any syntax highlighting. It works fine with other source files like python and C though. Someone please look into this. -- No automatic syntax highlighting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 252449] Re: No automatic syntax highlighting
Until highlighting is automatic (if the gedit developers intend to make it automatic that is), you can always manually select the source highlight mode thus: View | Highlight Mode | Scripts | PHP It has been noted that this is fixed on Jaunty, therefore you might want to upgrade or see if there is a backport of the newer packages for Intrepid? -- No automatic syntax highlighting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 252449] Re: No automatic syntax highlighting
Uh, sorry I spoke too soon it seems. It is not really a problem with gedit as it seems. I just now found out that the files I'm trying to create are not getting syntax highlighted. But I have someone else's PHP files which are getting syntax highlighted right when I open them. And yes, I tried selecting PHP manually from the highlight modes. Didn't work. -- Anomit Ghosh -- No automatic syntax highlighting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 252449] Re: No automatic syntax highlighting
Interesting. gedit will apply syntax highlighting automatically to files with an expected file extension - for example file.php _should_ be highlighted based on PHP language elements. Is it the case that your files do not have a .php extension and the other files you mention do? I can't see any reason why manually selecting PHP from the highlight menu doesn't help though. I would suggest updating to the latest versions of gtksourceview and gedit (just in case) if you haven't already done so. -- No automatic syntax highlighting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm really embarrassed now. Turns out I was writing everything outside the ?php tags. [Bug 252449] Re: No automatic syntax highlighting
Still a problem for me on 9.04 as well as 8.10 (both fully up-to-date). Gedit doesn't recognise .R files (kwrite/kate does). [Bug 252449] Re: No automatic syntax highlighting
I've not seen the Jaunty release, so the following is just a suggestion. Syntax highlighting should be based on the file mime type - likewise when the syntax highlighting is changed the user should be prompted and asked if they want to update the file type (such that the syntax highlighting will remain constant when the file is reopened). -- No automatic syntax highlighting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
