I recently noticed this problem on fresh Ubuntu 10.10 install with openjdk-6 I did some source lookup and it seeems that javaws uses xdg-desktop-icon util for shortcut creation. I believe this problem is caused by bug in this util. I have also noticed that short-cut creation cannot be deactivated. Maybe this is another bug? I also experience this problem.
