I see the same error when attempting to upload, using 10.04, Firefox 3.6.3, and Java (icedtea) 1.6.0_18. The only workaround is to use the Facebook "simple" uploader. The link to the simple uploader is at the bottom of the page that causes the crash (yes, I know...). I managed to grab it and copy to Tomboy, then kill the java process and firefox. A few moments later, the FFx session disappears from the screen. My FF is crashed after second upload: after first launch of FF, if I go to upload photos, Java applet is loading and upload works, if I want to upload more, when trying to launch the applet again, then there is the gray box and 100% of FF and I just need to kill FF. It happens to me; Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.24-19-generic), sun-java6.jre plugin, Firefox 3.0.6 and the new Facebook, when I go to the page where you upload photo the Java photo uploader tries to start, you see a box, then just white. Firefox hangs, there's nothing you can do, you can't click a tab or do anything with Firefox. Could you please check if ~/.mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so is a link that points to the installed plug-in. I did more checking. It seems like any page with a Java applet crashes. This did kind of work for some sites a few weeks ago. The gcj version of the java plugin is being used. I see there are other bugs about java plugin issues so I guess you can mark this as a duplicate of one of those.
