Praveen, it would be nice to test with latest Jaunty to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ - if you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system. Freeze with leds flashing almost surely identify a bug with the kernel, and each people having this, should probably open a diferent bug on 'linux' package, except if you were able to get a crash log and can confirm that it looks similar enough to an other open bug to be the same bug. Hi everyone I got desktop Athlon 3200 64 bits on a MSI board 2.5 GB RAM Kubuntu distro, which worked rock solid with 8.04 32 bits for months without any issue, after I upgrade Intrepid 32 box started to got freeze, so I decided to go into a new installation from scratch Intrepid 32 bits, and sadly I got freeze randomly almost once a day,box has no stressful workload at all. Another thing that I noticed is that some times NIC is disconnected. Averatec 3700 AMD Mobile Sempron 512 MB Ram I first ran into this problem while trying to run ubuntu studio 8.10 on top of ubuntu server 8.10. The server and studio upgrades install fine but whenever I reboot or startx the system freezes(mouse stops responding, processing indicator freezes, ram usage indicator LEDs stop flashing) just after it loads before the login screen is reached. Thinking it was maybe a bug or incompatibility with ubuntu studio desktop installed kde intrepid with the exact problem. I had the same problem on a Lenovo Thinkpad T60. I disabled speedstep in the bios and the problem seems to have gone away. At least before the change it locked up after 10 minutes. I get the same problem on my Hp Dv2000 Laptop, when i have firefox open and am doing nothing basically, it all of a sudden freezes and locks up completely and the capslock light flashes on my laptop. I am running kubuntu Intrepid fully updated. My mouse doesnt move at all, nothing does. It happened a week after I installed it fresh on the system. It happened 3 times tonight, its beginning to piss me off. install the backports package. That seemed to solve the problem for me. I'm having the same problem. Was running 8.4 flawlessly, but when I upgraded to 8.10 started getting random and frequent (every 30 min or more often) total system freezes, with blinking caps lock lights. I have a inspiron 1420 dual core. Memtest shows no problems. Very depressed. My computer is useless and it is seriously stressing me out. I can't get work done. Hi. Well, try to disable your WLAN card. I had my WLAN on a PCIx card. I just pulled it out and I've never had a problem since. This kernel seems to be incompatible with certain WLAN chips. The Kernel Panic freezes that I got left absolutely no trace (core) that I could find. However - after receiving a tip about certain WLAN chips not working with Intrepid I pulled out the D-Link DWL-520+ board (this is a server) and the problem disappeared. Another tip about installing a backport-package did however not help. No improvement in the final version today. Froze during the first installation. Second installation worked but freeze came after about 10 minutes of no activity. I am a bit worried for Canonicals reputation here. As I said, Hardy and Debian Lenny are stable on the same hardware. This kind of errror is difficult to pinpoint without an emulator with trace capability. I have tried both Intrepid Ubuntu beta and rc on a Siemens Primergy Econel 100 with dual Core 3 GHz Intel CPU. The Beta I could run up to an hour before freeze, the rc died already in installation. Memory test is OK, Hardy ran fine for months and I am writing this on a Fresh Debian Lenny on the same machine which is rock steady. After the freeze, keyboard leds are flashing, and there is no way in. Normally the file system is trashed after a power cycle reboot, most often terminally damaged. I'd like to help but must have sugestions.
