There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. It'll reload the rules, but won't actually apply any of the changes they would mandate. Good point. Though rules weren't reloaded at least when i tested on a hardy 8.04 live-cd. That should be reproducible. I had to do that manually. I can test again with Intrepid if you want. Looks like it works on Intrepid. That doesn't mean it works for Hardy though. udevd is supposed to monitor /etc/udev/rules.d/ with inotify and reload rules automatically, so I don't think this should be necessary.
