Hi, I stumbled upon this bug with thinkfinger (fingerprint reader from thinkpad) enabled in /etc/pam.d/common-auth: authsufficient pam_thinkfinger.so authrequisite pam_unix.so try_first_pass nullok_secure authoptionalpam_smbpass.so migrate missingok This was like it looked in hardy. After reenabling it in 8.10 the "arrow-up" error occured. After restoring the config, the error disappeared. I thinks it is really related gnome-settings-daemon. There are some more people affected.
