I can still reproduce this following these steps: 1. Start synaptic. 2. Click the quick search text box and write lib. Thank you for your bug report. I have messed around with the synaptic on my i386 Dell Inspiron 6000 with 8.10 using the quick search. My CPU hasn't climbed above 2%. Thus I cannot confirm your issue. What will help the devs/triagers is more information on what you were doing as the problem happened (i.e were there any other program open..) as well as a few more system specs (amount of RAM, etc...).
