[Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
Confirmed, but it was working until yesterday. [Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
I should maybe mention that I don't get this behavior on my work computer which I've just upgraded to Ubuntu, so I think it's safe to close this bug. My work computer is also running Ubuntu 8.04, this time on an ATI Radeon HD 2600XT. The setup is essentially identical as I followed the same configuration notes, but one key difference may be that I didn't need to mess about with graphics drivers so much this time. My installation steps were simply based on: # Click System -> Administration -> Hardware drivers and install the non free ati drivers # Then configure with: * aticonfig --dtop=horizontal * aticonfig --initial --desktop-setup=horizontal --overlay-on=1 --ovt=Xv -- Window list missing items on second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
Got another comment to add to this after spotting something today. If I swap to a different workspace, all of my windows then appear on the window list on the primary monitor (and disappear from the new list on the second monitor). So items on the second monitor only disappear from the window list if I'm currently viewing the workspace they're on... -- Window list missing items on second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
Aaah, didn't know I could do that (spot the recent windows convert). Ok, if I add a new panel on the 2nd screen, and put a window list on there it shows the programs I have on that monitor. That does appear to be a usable workaround so I'll keep testing that and let you know if I spot any problems. Long term though I'd still rather have a single window list that shows all the programs I have open. There's an option to include all workspaces, I'd very much like an option to include all monitors too. -- Window list missing items on second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

the screenshot shows you don't have a tasklist on the second screen, does it work correctly if you add one there? -- Window list missing items on second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
RE: [Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
It's reproducible every time for me right now, simply moving windows to the second screen makes them disappear from the window list. I've got detailed notes on how I configured Ubuntu if they are needed. The basic setup is that I'm running on an ATI Radeon x1950, I installed the Ubuntu ATI drivers, then the latest ATI drivers, and configured it for dual screen using the following aticonfig commands: aticonfig --dtop=horizontal aticonfig --initial --desktop-setup=horizontal --overlay-on=1 --ovt=Xv If you have any problems reproducing this let me know, I plan to re- install Ubuntu anyway soon to check that my notes are accurate, so it's no problem to test that it's 100% reproducible. Wnckprop results from a console window on the second monitor are: Name: Bottom Expanded Edge Panel Icon Name: Bottom Expanded Edge Panel Icons: set On Workspace: 0 ('Desk 1') On Screen: 0 (Window Manager: compiz) Window Type: dock or panel Geometry (x, y, width, height): 0, 1000, 1280, 24 Class Group: Gnome-panel XID: 16777219 PID: 5958 Session ID: State: sticky, skip pager, skip tasklist Possible Actions: make above, unmake above, make below, unmake below I've attached a screenshot of my entire desktop, showing the windows on each monitor, and clearly showing the difference between the window list and the window selector. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions: * Is this reproducible? * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? This will help us to find and resolve the problem. [Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
I've just found it's also possible for the "Window Selector" to give the wrong list of items. If I select a program on the second monitor, then click on the Window Selector, it shows the contents of both screens. If however I then right-click on the Window Selector, then left-click on it again, it now shows only the contents of the first monitor (where the window selector panel is located). So far alt-tab has proven reliable, but it's very disconcerting to be not quite sure of what programs are running. -- Window list missing items on second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
