[Bug 26677] Re: Update Manager does not install updates

2007-03-28 Thread Michael Vogt
I can not reproduce this failure in feisty not on edgy (with the latest
language-pack-it). If it still is a problem for you, please run:
$ strace -f update-manager > /tmp/u-m.strace 2>&1
$ gzip /tmp/u-m.strace
and attach the file the file /tmp/u-m.strace.gz

Thanks,
 Michael

[Bug 26677] Re: Update Manager does not install updates

2007-02-18 Thread Matteo Bertini
Same problem (it-IT):

Linux ibook 2.6.20-8-powerpc #3 Tue Feb 13 01:44:07 UTC 2007 ppc
GNU/Linux

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo update-manager
warning: could not initiate dbus
current dist not found in meta-release file
could not send the dbus Inhibit signal: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did
not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not
send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply
timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I think the real problem is that update-manager should not fail
silently.

[Bug 26677] Re: Update Manager does not install updates

2006-12-03 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
No, this function is used to call gnome-power-manager to not suspend the
machine during the installation of the packages. If this fails we will
get an error message but it doesn't segfault.

[Bug 26677] Re: Update Manager does not install updates

2006-12-03 Thread axa1981
I confirm this bug. Same behaviour as Markku Korkeala with italian
locale.

I tried to start dbus-monitor and I received the same message:
"could not send the dbus Inhibit signal: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken."

I suggest it's a dbus update problem.

[Bug 26677] Re: Update Manager does not install updates

2006-11-17 Thread Markku Korkeala
I can confirm this bug. I did a clean edgy install couple of weeks ago.
Update-manager informs correctly about new packages, but when I click
install packages it just examines, last thing it prints is Reading state
information and then goes back to shot the upgradable packages. To
console it prints:

$ sudo update-manager
warning: could not initiate dbus

And when I click install packages:
could not send the dbus Inhibit signal: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.

My locale is LANG=en_US.UTF-8

@NoWhereMan: what locale do you use? There is currently bug #51419 open
about a problem with "it" locales.

[Bug 26677] Re: Update Manager does not install updates

2006-10-24 Thread NoWhereMan
same problem of the OP
console output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo update-manager
Password:
warning: could not initiate dbus
current dist not found in meta-release file
could not send the dbus Inhibit signal: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

AFAIK this is common to other python apps, so the problem might be
related to python-dbus (?)

This sounds like it might be a duplicate of #62754. It should be fixed
with the latest synaptic upload, I would be in feedback.

Thanks,

[Bug 26677] Re: Update Manager does not install updates

2006-09-01 Thread Alexander Menk
I've got a similar problem.
Dapper Drake 6.06.1 32bit on AMD64

Clicking "Install Updates" with having market all availible updates just show's
"Examing your system" and then doesn't install anything. The updates are still
available.
Sometimes there are some updates, which can be installed.

Console:

sudo update-manager
Password:
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/apt/__init__.py:17: FutureWarning: apt API not
stable yet
warnings.warn("apt API not stable yet", FutureWarning)

apt-get upgrade works with those updates, update-manager rejects to install:

sudo apt-get upgrade
