[Bug 269199] Re: Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:///
ubuntu is not going to change that against upstream on a distribution specific way, you can argue upstream though ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

A related bug regarding the same issue as this is bug 44885 that up doesn't work when browsing networks where I think it should also work. -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269199] Re: Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:///
Ah, I managed to find the upstream discussion you mentioned, and actually it only consists of one single comment of a developers that this isn't going to be done: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165266 -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269199] Re: Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:///
The whole way the filesystem is exposed to users in gnome is like computer:/// is the top level with all the volumes below it. It should be done consistently like that or not at all.
Even if it is an upstream feature, I consider it a bug in Ubuntu. Yes the previous button works, but up is jsut plain confusing. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Brian: I know the back button provides this in most situations, but the point is that the behaviour of up is very confusing. -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported, but feel free to report any other bugs you find. That has already been discussed and is an upstream feature not a bug, you can use previous to open the previous directory ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269199] Re: Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:///
I see your point. Shouldn't the back button provide this feature, and not the up arrow? -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269199] Re: Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:///
Well for most users the way they will arrive at any of the mounted volumes is through computer:///. So it is very unnatural to get to a different place if you press the up button from there. In principle most users shouldn't be seeing /media at anytime, unless they choose to do so. That said, I can imagine this could be a little problematic in those cases where you arrive through /media, although this is the less common case here. Perhaps nautilus could remember that you arrived through computer:/// somehow and set the up button functionality accordingly? -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269199] Re: Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:///
JBJ and Wouter, I'm not entirely sure I would consider this a bug. The directory /media is a part of the root filesystem at /, so when you go up in the directory then it should be the / . I think this is more of a feature request in nautilus. I will wait for a reply before taking any actions. -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Wouter Stomp, Thank you for your bug report! I have confirmed your bug to be valid on Ubuntu 8.04.1 and Nautilus 2.22.2. Actually this goes for everything that is shown in the computer window: e.g. if you go to file system from there, up should also be possible to get you back. -- Pressing up from any volume mounted in /media should take you to computer:/// https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
