Intrepid has reached end of life. Are you still having this problem on

[Bug 269405] Re: glxinfo crash on Intrepid Ibex: extension "GLX" missing

2008-11-30 Thread Ketil Vestby
Since this bug is "importance: Undecided" (and I found my bugreport to
be incomplete):

I use Ubuntu only, both at work and home. Got Intel chipsets on my home
computers and at work. About once a day, X crashes. When it does, X try
to restart several times - but do eventually give up.

The only message logged is:

2008-11-30 Thread Ketil Vestby
Removing Nvidia solved the problem for me to, why are the nvidia-modules
installed by default? - Am not using any chipsets from Nvidia, on any of
my computers - but the nvidia drivers became installed on the two with
GUI.

Even if I should have removed them, I had, it's done, and it works! I
want to say that there a package relative to X-org that was installed
before, and now it isn't (maybe it help others). The xserver-xorg-video-
nv is not installed on my system anymore. Maybe it was the cause of my
problem. I'm not programmer, so I just left the info.

[Bug 269405] Re: glxinfo crash on Intrepid Ibex: extension "GLX" missing

2008-09-13 Thread Adrián Chaves Fernández
Thank you very much, Jacob.

I've opened Synaptic, removed all packages with nvidia in its name (and
the one which ends with "nv" and seems to be relative to the X.org).
When I rebooted the computer, there was no X. I wrote "sudo defconf"
after login in text mode, and although it was as if anything had happen,
it must have done.

Then, I installed envyng (sudo apt-get envyng-core), and as I log in and
executed the command "supertuxkart" (which hadn't work for some time
because of this "bug"), the funny music started, and the game menu
appeared. Thanks, and I hope it to resolve the problem for everybody.

Adrián:

If you actually have an NVIDIA chipset, then you probably don't want to
remove the NVIDIA drivers. I should have made it more clear that I'm
have an Intel i945 chipset, hence my reason for removing them.

Just 'sudo dexconf' and restarting X didn't worked for me. I'm removing
nvidia packages right now. Is relevant that I've used EnvyNG to install
de official nVidia drivers?

[Bug 269405] Re: glxinfo crash on Intrepid Ibex: extension "GLX" missing

2008-09-13 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Possible workaround:

Run `sudo dexconf` to reset your xorg.conf. Restart X and try again.

If that doesn't work, open Synaptic and remove all of the nvidia drivers
(sans nvidia-kernel-common) and run `sudo dexconf` again. It appears
that the NVIDIA drivers and config applet somehow got installed on
systems that do not even have an NVIDIA graphics chipset, and the system
attempts to boot with an that driver and fails. `sudo dexconf` should
reset the settings back to the default for your system.
