[Bug 269479] Re: [intrepid] Low color resolution on Mobility Radeon X1600 and Desktop Effects

2008-12-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
@Mark, since you're using a completely different video card than Markus,
I would suspect your issue is unrelated; please report it as a new bug:
ubuntu-bug -p xserver-xorg-video-sis.

@Markus, since you're not able to reproduce it, I'm going to go ahead
and close this bug, but if you run across it again and are able to get
the needed info please feel free to reopen.

[Bug 269479] Re: [intrepid] Low color resolution on Mobility Radeon X1600 and Desktop Effects

2008-10-04 Thread Markus Pfeiffer
@Bryce: I think the problem indeed occured last after an upgrade. So far
it hasn't happened again and I haven't been able to reproduce it on
purpose. Not quite sure, but i think it also happened once when
switching between 8.04.1 and Intrepid (dual-boot), after I tried to
install fglrx on 8.04. Again, unable to reproduce.

@Mark: I agree with your observation about colours. Some of them display fine,
only a few seem off. Calling it Low colour resolution is probably wrong.
However, I don't know how to better describe the effect ;)
For me the problem always disappeared after a reboot, the screenshot then
displaying just fine on the same computer (notebook). So it would seem the
colour information gets mangled between the video memory and display (unless
the screenshot is not a direct dump of video memory contents?).

Funny coincidence about the names, if I wanted to translate mine into
english yours would probably be closest approximation ;)

[Bug 269479] Re: [intrepid] Low color resolution on Mobility Radeon X1600 and Desktop Effects

2008-10-04 Thread Mark Piper
FYI, I've got SiS onboard graphics ( VGA compatible controller [0300]:
Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE
VGA Display Adapter [1039:6330] Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI]
Device [1025:0083]), and I noticed that the issue is not present if I
use the vesa driver, although that then limits me to 800 x 600...

2008-10-03 Thread Mark Piper
Same problem here, including the screenshot looks fine when viewed on
another display issue. However, in my case, the problem persists after
reboot, and even if I boot with kernel 2.6.24-19. Have previously added
some details to bug 272933, will reattach here if required.

2008-10-03 Thread Mark Piper
Also, I've noticed that it doesn't exactly seem to be low colour
resolution necessarily, although at first glance it's a similar effect -
many colours display correctly, and I have noticed that on some
occasions when restoring from standby the effect is reduced (although
still problematic).

[Bug 269479] Re: [intrepid] Low color resolution on Mobility Radeon X1600 and Desktop Effects

2008-09-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
I've noticed it's not uncommon for the first boot after upgrade to
exhibit some odd behaviors that never appear again after that. It
sounds like this may be one of those cases? These bugs prove
notoriously difficult to troubleshoot. If you're able to reliably
reproduce it, or notice the issue again other than immediately following
an upgrade, can you let us know here?

Otherwise, I think we should see if others report this behavior, and
perhaps upstream the bug.
