[Bug 272960] Re: No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA
phin harper, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272960 Title: No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/272960/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 272960] Re: No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA
I found Lucid & Karmic work "out-of-the-box" on mine, however, there's something wrong with the headphones option. As soon as you plug heatphones in, you can hear a split-second of whatever's playing before both speakers and headphones go mute. -- No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 272960] Re: No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA
On the Lucid Lynx start-up disc sound doesn't work for me at all - the volume control just says "---" and when I try to open sound preferences it tells me it's "waiting for the sound system to respond". I'm now running apport-collect to give some info. Does anyone have a success story to share? ** Tags added: apport-collected -- No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'd like to be able to do something about the driver too, but my coding experience amounts to mashing the keyboard with my palm. I don't believe so, but I've not put much effort into trying. It didn't work with skype. I can't help but agree that we're really close, as I can, without doubt, hear sound through the headphones if I keep plugging in the jack, and unplugging it rapidly. I'd love to do something about the driver myself, but unfortunately my coding experience amounts to extremely basic HTML, and some rudimentary bash commands. -- No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It sounds like that patch (https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=41385#c1) has been added to the distro then. I never managed to get the headphone jack working either (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1099743). I suppose it means we're ridiculously close now - if we could just enable headphones. I've found a fresh install of 9.10 (or alternatively, booting from liveCD) works Fine & Dandy on the external speakers. There appears to be a bit of a problem with the headphone jack, in that as soon as you plug in headphones, you can hear a split-second of sound (through the headphones), before both headphones & External speakers are muted. [Bug 272960] Re: No sound on install on Hi-Grade Notino_D7000SRA
I'm also suffering from this bug - I found that none of the users (my user or root) had the ability to use audio devices in System > Administration > Users and Groups > Properties, or belonged to the groups pulse, pulse-access or pulse-rt - this must be some kind of indicator of the problem, but when I enabled all these features I was still stuck without sound - I do not know enough to about Ubuntu to know if there is anything else that should obviously be enabled in order to have sound. I found the following operating systems don't have sound on this laptop: Ubuntu 8.10, Linux Mint 6, Fedora 10 and OpenSuse 11. Windows Vista, however, does. But Vista is my last resort (that probably goes for all of us).
