This is a bug in flash player itself that has existed pretty much since file upload support was added to flash on linux, would all those interested in seeing this resolved vote for it to be fixed on the adobe bug tracker: https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-377 and if you feel so inclined leave a comment too. I'm using Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22 in Jaunty, the bug is kind of still there. I found that if you wait for about 5 minutes, Firefox is responsive again. Still too annoying!. Plus a non working flash- uploader in Wordpress 2.6.x, despite it doesn't freeze.
